Internet Safety 101

In a partnership with the Troy Police Internet Crimes TaskForce, this course is offered in concurrent sessions for parents and teens. The Internet can be a valuable resource for students and adults. However, teens can encounter dangerous situations on the Internet, from viewing inappropriate materials to being asked for face-to-face meetings with strangers, to unknowingly divulging personal information that can be used by predators. Parents will be made aware of the dangers associated with unsupervised Internetuse by children and teens. Tips are given on monitoring Internet use in an effort to keep children safe. Children and teens are given information on howto stay safe while using the internet. This course, targeting students 11-15years of age, is taught be police personnel. Its purpose is to give children and teens information on how to stay safe while using the Internet. The course stresses refraining from providing personal information to strangers, staying off sites where strangers may join in on conversations and falsely portray themselves as teens or friends, how and why to use care and caution when divulging personal information on sites such as MySpace and open chat rooms.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection Program

Certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect and teach families to properly install car seats in their vehicles. This program meets on the 1st Thursday of each month from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at alternating sites. To make an appointment, please call 248-551-0103.
