More than half of the children who are admitted to the Beaumont Children's Hospital are seen initially at the Emergency Center at Beaumont, Royal Oak. At the Emergency Center, children are treated by dedicated pediatric nurses and board-certified emergency physicians who have a strong focus on providing excellent pediatric care in a family-friendly environment. And because Beaumont, Royal Oak is a level 1 trauma facility, it is equipped to handle the most severe emergencies for all ages, including children. As a regional referral center, we receive transfers from many hospitals within southeast Michigan and beyond.
With a generous donation made by Suzanne and Herbert Tyner, Beaumont, Royal Oak plans to expand its emergency center to include a separate 24 room area designed and equipped especially for children.
Our hospitals in Grosse Pointe and Troy also provide emergency care to children. All three of the Beaumont emergency centers provide the benefit of having immediate access to over 30 medical and surgical sub-specialties and services of the Beaumont Children's Hospital as well as access to over 200 board-certified pediatricians.
Because of the level of expertise provided by the Emergency Center, Beaumont, Royal Oak is a training center for physician residents studying emergency medicine, family practice and pediatrics. Not only does Beaumont train its own Beaumont residents, but also those from other area hospitals.
Emergency Center staff also offer their expertise by helping educate the community on various safety issues. As a community partner with the Royal Oak fire and police departments, Beaumont offers Safety City, USA, a group of programs designed to educate children, teens, new parents and seniors on various safety issues.
