Beaumont Children’s Hospital pediatric cardiology specialists see more than 2,500 children every year, and provide care for a wide range of heart conditions, including
Parents can be confident that their children will receive the highest quality outpatient or inpatient care from compassionate experts in a child-friendly environment. State-of-the-art cardiology equipment – including a fully digital, accredited echocardiogram laboratory just for children – makes it possible to perform more than 3,400 echocardiograms and 3,600 electrocardiograms each year. Stress testing, Holter monitoring and event recording are also available.
In addition, Beaumont participates in the Health Edge Heart Check program that screens student athletes at area high schools and on Beaumont campuses. The program checks for heart problems that might otherwise go undetected. It combines a simple health history, electrocardiogram and brief exam by a doctor to look for signs of diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a serious heart condition that is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes. HCM affects approximately 1 in 500 people and does not usually have any symptoms. Stress on the heart during strenuous activities can put student athletes at risk. The Health Edge Heart Check also looks for life-threatening heart rhythm problems. Please call 1-800-633-7377 for more information.
