Upcoming Classes are to Help Parents of Special Needs Children

"Parenting a child with special needs presents special challenges," says Therese Scarpace, Beaumont pediatric rehabilitation social worker."So a team of specialists from the Beaumont's Children's Hospital's Center for Human Development, Speech and Language department and Center for Children's Rehabilitation have collaborated with a professional financial planner to address some of the most common questions to help parents find answers and empower themselves."

The Parent Empowerment Series is geared toward mothers and fathers of special needs children. Psychologists, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech and language pathologists will be available at each session to answer care-related questions.

The first presentation is "Toilet Training Tips for Your Special Needs Child"on Tuesday, April 21 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.at the Wright& Filippis Pediatric Center at 1100 W. Thirteen Mile Road (east of Stephenson Highway) in Madison Heights.

The second presentation is "Wills, Trusts and Financial Planning for Children with Special Needs," Tuesday, May 21from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the National City Building, classroom A, 755 W. Big Beaver Road (east of Crooks Road), Troy.
