Toy Cart at Beaumont, Troy Brings Smiles

Generous donations from community members are brightening hospital stays for children treated at Beaumont Hospital, Troy.

The hospital recently introduced a Pediatric Toy Cart filled with age-specific toys and games for patients in the hospital's Pediatric Unit and in other treatment and public areas at the Troy hospital.

As part of a play therapy program that began in July, volunteers travel throughout the hospital with the Pediatric toy cart several times a day.  They  pass out new toys, activity books, craft kits, dolls, board games, playing cards and other  items to  young patients in the Pediatric unit,  in the Emergency Center, Radiology, Pre-Op Surgery , Endoscopy and the Pediatric  After Hours Clinic.

"It's just a little something extra to brighten our patients' stay in our hospital," says Lee-Anne Jamieson-Peeters, administrative manager for Pediatrics and the neonatal intensive care unit."We couldn't have moved forward with this program without the generous financial donations from the Macy's"Glam Pass" fundraiser or the cart that was donated by Scarcello Associates."

The toy cart supplies are being supported by a $26,000 donation from a Macy's"Glam Pass" fundraiser held in 2007. The toy cart was a gift from Scarcello Associates, the firm that designed the Pediatric unit in 2006.

Beaumont's Pediatric unit welcomes additional donations of new toys, games, craft items, books and other child-friendly items to add to the toy cart.
