Outstanding Pediatric Care and Services

A seven-bed pediatric unit with state-of-the-art technology, private rooms and a family-friendly environment opened in 2008. The unit allows children to receive medical treatment close to home. Rooms are furnished with a custom sleep chair to allow a parent to stay overnight. Children also benefit from state-of-the-art beds and customized cribs. For the child’s entertainment, 32-inch flat screen televisions with DVDs, videos and gaming systems are available. A playroom with age-appropriate toys allows children to engage in developmentally important activities.

Private Treatment Rooms

Private treatment rooms are available for outpatient evaluations and procedures. The treatment room is also used for inpatient children undergoing unpleasant invasive procedures such as IV starts. This prevents children from associating their patient care room with unpleasant or painful procedures, so their bed remains a “safe place.”

Child-Friendly Equipment

The unit also has customized “smart pumps” for IV medication administration, and customized pediatric resuscitation equipment. A newly purchased “vein viewer” helps nurses and doctors identify appropriate sites for IV catheters, minimizing the discomfort for the child.

Access to Board-Certified Pediatricians

A board-certified pediatrician is present around the clock to provide patient care. Patients in the pediatric unit at Beaumont, Grosse Pointe, also benefit from having access to more than 200 board-certified general pediatricians, 83 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists, and all of the services that have earned Beaumont Hospitals a ranking as the “Most Preferred Hospital in Southeast Michigan” by the National Research Corporation.
