Eating Disorder Patient Testimonials

What do Hough Center programs offer for teens with eating disorders?

Are you feeling stuck? Perhaps parents or other adults don't understand what you are going through? Some days you may wish to start over? Often it's anxiety-provoking or sometimes downright scary?

The Hough Center understands that teens see life from their own perspective. We also recognize that having a variety of ways to learn, from art to technology keeps learning more interesting and also more meaningful.

Sometimes it's hard to talk at the first group, but by the end everyone is relaxed and supporting each other.

Here's what some of the teens have said about our programs:

"I realized I can't do this alone; it showed me who I could lean on in my life; there could be a lot of helpful things."

"This showed me how everyone and everything fit together."

"It was very relatable and I felt comfortable and accepted."

"It helped me start thinking about the other positive stuff, not just the physical."

"It helped me put together self and body image. I didn't know they fit together."

"It helped me realize that what I think about myself matters, and there are things about me I can't change but can accept."

"I keep learning about my strengths and how far I've come and want to help my future."

"I learned it's important for me to believe in myself."

"It helped to spend a lot of time listening to what other girls said."

"It helped me to remember that when I'm feeling bad about my body, it shouldn't affect other parts of me, my personality."

"I liked to hear about other people like me."

"It helped me understand my eating disorder more with people my age."

"I was glad to hear I am not the only person who has an eating disorder and feels the way I do."

"It showed me that I could even help the people that help me."

"It made me realize how much I love my family."

"I'm realizing everyone has strengths and weaknesses; realizing a balance and then cope."

"It made me realize how much I want to recover."

"It helped me feel more confident."

"Just looking at this and what I can do in the future is relaxing and less stressful."

"Helpful to think of actions to actually improve and hear what others are doing to get better."
